Limits of Empathy


     While not the most technically sound or ravishing landscape captured, the explicit imperfection of this image allures me. This man-made gateway into one of nature's most grandiose creations stands as a tremendous failure, unable to capture the magnificence of what lies behind it. It stands to reason that my camera, akin to this meager metal gateway, similarly failed at capturing its subject. The image allures me because its short-comings reflect the subject's short-comings; and, as I sit here, pondering how I could possibly be empathizing with an iron archway, I can't help but stare at it for a second or two longer...
