You Were Leaking

You Were Leaking

Here, I have it

in a cup for you –

you were leaking

No,

not in a manner of speaking –

I saw it drip

down your sk-

What happened to your skin?

I know I’m of carbon too,

but you wear a suit of soot –

your hands aren’t your hands

they are a bird’s eye view

of multitudinous sand dunes

Focus now,

divert your dimming stare

into my palms brimming with life

and tell me:

is it yours?

Yes?

Alright, do drink up –

you may sip the cup,

I don’t need it back

No?

But, it is yours:

blood and breath and bone

hope and grit and fire

and look at it gleaming

with the love you’ve shone

What are you smiling about?

You mean to tell me

that you called for the drawdown?

Why?

Oh, you’re moving –

where to?

Wait!

Where are you going?

You do not leave footsteps,

how will I find you?

I cannot reach you.

How will I know

if you’re still smiling?
