I Knew A Jim Morrison Once
When slithering time shed
its skin once more, and
I was forced back into
mundanity,
I came upon relief in
your form.
Tell me why, though it is
your
words that all fawn over,
I
could only pay heed to
your
eyes? The keyless doors of
perception
through which you peered
and spat
out digressions that
placed themselves
in orderly poems – effortless
and
ensnaring. Like him, you
could see
through the pretenses of
the strange
people; you could make
sense
of the strange days for
those
who could not; and yet, you’d
sit
and wait for this tempest
to come cast you asunder.
And when, in the early
hours
of a dawn, you finally
gave in –
why did I yet wait for
you
to return and sing:
This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end
It hurts to set you free
But you'll never follow me
The end of laughter and soft lies
The end of nights we tried to die
This is the end
